Bobby Moses Nichols and his band delighted the crowd at The Gardens on El Paseo in the next to last installment of the Wine and Music Concert Series, Sat., April 11. The evening's performance benefited Angel View, a nonprofit organization that has been helping physically challenged young people in the Coachella Valley since the early 1950s.
The band played some selections from their latest CD titled "Jumolhari." Their set included the upbeat "Reptile Dysfunction" and the introspective "Save Me From Myself." Members of the band came down from the stage to give fans an up close and personal experience.
The Gardens on El Paseo has raised more than $500,000 for local charities since the music series premiere in 1998. A wine and cheese reception is held on the center lawn before each performance.
The concerts are produced by KJJZ's Jim "Fitz" Fitzgerald and feature artists ranging from jazz and pop to rock 'n' roll and funk. With each $10 donation, attendees receive two glasses of wine and light refreshments catered by Pacifica Seafood Restaurant and Tommy Bahama's Cafe. All proceeds from the event go directly to the local charity featured that evening.
Pacifica Seafood Restaurant is one of the events co-sponsors along with The Gardens on El Paseo, Tommy Bahama's Cafe, Desert Lexus, DesertArc and 102.3 KJJZ. Mitch Epstein, Managing Partner with Pacifica Seafood Restaurant explained the importance of giving back to the community, especially in difficult economic times.
"We give straight from the heart", Epstein stated.
This year, the series runs Jan. 31 through April 18 and each concert is one-hour long and begins at 6 p.m. Concertgoers gather at 5:15 p.m. for the refreshments.
The season's last concert will be April 18 and features The John Stanley King Band. It benefits The Stroke Recovery Center.
Thank you to The Gardens on El Paseo for hosting this exciting concert series benefiting local charities.
