Fantasy Springs Resort Casino, Indio, Calif.
Story and photos by Pat Krause
Motley Crue rocked in Indio at Fantasy Springs Resort Casino in the Special Events Center on Sat., Jan. 31. Needless to say, this famous group’s concert was a total sellout. Motley Crue t-shirts, headbands and tattoos were in great supply. Full arm tattoos were seen everywhere and spiky hair could be found all throughout the Center as Kyle Floyd, Ross Hudgins, Anthony Laborin from Orange displayed.
Fans came from all around the area. I talked with some from Carmel, Orange and parts west. Some said they were fans since the band’s early years. The different age groups in attendance surprised me. The band has been around for a long time, so it has cultivated a large fan base of all ages.
It took a while for the audience to get there. The concert started at 8:30 p.m. when most of the fans were able to get to their seats. Lights starting flashing behind the curtains about 8 p.m., and the crowd started yelling and got excited, thinking the band was about to start. Things quieted down until the drums started playing behind the curtains at 8:30. Lights flashed, loud sonic-type bangs and fireworks were displayed as the curtains parted.
The fans went wild with arms in the air and everyone was on their feet or on their chairs. Pyrotechnics and flashing lights, with spotlights that went all over the crowd were something to see. It was difficult to see the artists as there was very little lighting on them. Only the fans in the front could get a close-up look. A fog seemed to settle across the stage.
I could see Vince Neil walking from one side of the stage to the other. His arms were tattooed and so was the guitarist. Neil's long, blond hair would flow behind him as he raced across the stage. Of course, the music was loud, but the louder it got the more the audience responded.
Neil, Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars and Tommy Lee make up the band. The background of the stage would constantly change. Different forms would show up on a large screen in back. The fans knew the songs and they sang along. Excitement was everywhere and it was electric.
After the third song, they announced they have a new CD out. If even a small portion of the fans at this concert buys the new CD they will have a hit.
Thanks to Motley Crue and the staff of the Fantasy Springs Casino Special Event Center for their help.
