This past Friday night at 9, Grammy-nominated singer, songwriter, musician and actor Chris Isaak opened his act at The Show at The Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa to a sold-out crowd.
The show started promptly with a mature crowd that seemed to take in the stage with awe when Isaak opened in his trademark red suit and dreamy overhead lighting. The sound in this particular venue was almost as if in 3D, if that was possible. I could feel the sound moving through my body. Fortunately, I had my Vibration Reduction lens in tow.
Isaak and his long-time Silvertone Band played extremely tight, which was to be expected with this musically seasoned group of musicians who have played together for 25 years. “Believe” was played in the opening set followed by many Isaak greats.
Friday was one of few preliminary shows in California during the month of May prior to the launch of Chris Isaak’s 2009 Summer Tour and new album, which was just released under Reprise Records. The “Mr. Lucky” album has many new songs, seven years overdue, including “Best I Ever Had,” “Cheater’s Town” and “Breaking Apart,” a duet he performs with country star Trisha Yearwood.
From his performance here at the "The Show", Chris Isaak next plays at the Sonoma Jazz Festival in Sonoma, Calif. If you miss this trip to wine country to see him or his 2009 Summer Tour, you can catch him on his show, the “Chris Isaak Hour,” currently running its first season on the Biography Channel. Isaak invites musical guests to relive the best memories and a living biography of their careers with storytelling, performances and interviews. Guest musicians including Stevie Nicks, Trisha Yearwood, Jewel and Michael Bublé play their own material as well as the songs of those who most inspired them.
I met with Agua
Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa Communications Manager Therese Everett-Kerley who smiled as she explained to me that
when seats come on sale for the electric desert venue, people had
better get your tickets the day they come on sale. Even in hard times,
it seems getting away for an evening of great musicians or comedy is
still in the budget for most in the Coachella Valley.
I would like to thank Agua Caliente Casino • Resort • Spa for their generosity in allowing us to cover their whimsical theater for those who may not have had the chance to attend. I also feel like the lucky one for having to get a chance to see and hear “Mr. Lucky” in my own backyard. Thank you Chris Isaak and the rocking Silvertone Band for coming to the desert for a night of outstanding entertainment.
